  • Assist in prioritizing startup programs and Windows services.

  • Clear disk space by removing duplicate files, files in your temporary directory, and permanently erasing files.

You can access the main features and monitor the performance of your computer from the main window.

To get started with Norton Utilities

  1. Open Norton Utilities by accessing All Programs > Norton Utilities > Norton Utilities. You can also double-click the Norton Utilities icon on the desktop.

  2. Ensure that your version of Norton Utilities is up to date. You can click Smart Update to check and download the latest product updates.

  3. Become familiar with the Dashboard screen. You can see the dashboard when you open Norton Utilities. It provides immediate access to the main features of Norton Utilities. To stop the optimization at any point, click the red Stop icon.

The Dashboard is divided into following sections:

    • System Health: System health is an indication of performance and stability of your computer. Your system health depends on factors such as registry and hard drives. Cleaning your registry, compacting your registry, bleaching your hard drives, and defragmenting your disks hard drives helps you optimize performance and stability of your system.

The System Health meter is a graphical representation of your computer's overall health.

There are four states of the system health meter:

      Unidentified

Indicates that Norton Utilities did not perform registry and disk checkup.

Therefore, it cannot determine the health of your computer.

      LOW

Indicates that Norton Utilities has tested your computer and recommends you to perform tasks to maintain the performance and the stability of your computer.

To the right of the system health meter, you can find tasks required to achieve good system health.

      FAIR

Indicates that Norton Utilities has tested your computer and performed some of the basic tasks such as cleaning registry, clearing document history, and bleaching free disk space.

But you can run fixes like disk defragmentation to further maintain performance and stability of your computer.

      GOOD

Indicates that Norton Utilities has tested your computer and executed all recommended tasks to optimize performance and stability of your computer.

Changing from one level of system health to another does not mean you will observe changes in the speed of your computer. System health meter indicates that Norton Utilities has completed tasks it has identified as necessary for potential improved system stability and overall health.

Norton Utilities tests critical aspects of your computer like registry and disks. If it detects an issue that can affect the performance of your system, it flags the issue. An issue can impact your day to day work and potentially decrease the performance of your computer.

A high priority issue can potentially affect the overall performance of your system. Resolving the issue can potentially improve the performance of your system. You can ignore fixing a high priority issue if you are satisfied with the performance of your system.

By not fixing issues recommended by Norton Utilities, you are not harming your computer. Your computer retains its current performance and stability.
