Error: "This product is not compatible with this computer's current operating system..." when installing Norton

You may also see the error "Norton product will not install in compatibility mode. Close this window and restart the installer in normal mode." These errors can appear if Norton is not compatible with your operating system or if you are running the installer in the compatibility mode.

Check Norton compatibility

The Norton that you want to install is compatible only with the following operating systems:

  • Microsoft Windows 11

  • Microsoft Windows® 10#

  • Microsoft Windows 8/8.1 or later (all versions).

  • Microsoft Windows 7 (all versions) with Service Pack 1 or later

  • Microsoft Windows Vista (all versions) with Service Pack 1 or later*

  • Microsoft Windows XP (32 bit) Home/Professional with Service Pack 3 or later*

*If you are on Windows Vista or Windows XP, your Norton client security software will no longer receive the new product updates that the customers on supported versions of Windows (Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7) will receive.

However, your Norton client security software will continue to receive the latest malware definitions by LiveUpdate, vulnerability updates, and compatibility fixes. Norton Password Manager browser extension is no longer supported on Windows Vista and Windows XP. For more information, see Norton Maintenance Mode for Windows XP and Windows Vista.
