Open unsafe and untrusted files and programs in Sandbox

The Sandbox feature in your Norton product lets you browse the web or run programs in a completely isolated, safe environment. This feature is useful when you want to run suspicious or untrusted programs without having to worry about the risk.

Run programs in Sandbox

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

  2. On the left pane, click Security.

  3. Navigate to Advanced Security > Computer > Sandbox.

  4. Click Open Application.

  5. Navigate and select the program file (.exe) and click Open.

  6. The program opens in a virtualized window indicated by a colored border and the label Norton Sandbox. To end the virtualized session, click the X icon in the top-right corner of the window.

To run a program in Sandbox directly from Windows, right-click the relevant .exe file and select Run in Norton sandbox or Always run in Norton Sandbox from the context menu. The context menu options appear only if you have enabled the Show Norton Sandbox in Windows context menu option in the Sandbox settings window.

Always run programs in Sandbox

You can set up specific programs to always open or run in Sandbox.

  1. Open your Norton device security product.

  2. On the left pane, click Security.

  3. In the Security dashboard, navigate to Advanced Security > Computer > Sandbox.

  4. In the Sandbox window, click the Permanent Sandbox tab.

  5. Click Add/Add Application.

  6. In the Add app window, do one of the following:

    • Click Add next to a listed program to instantly add it.

    • Click Manually Select App, then navigate and select the program file (.exe) and click Open.

  7. Every time you open the added program, it automatically runs in Sandbox.

You can click the 'X' icon next to the program name to remove an app from the virtualization list.
