Recover lost or corrupted files using Norton Utilities Ultimate

The Data Recovery feature in Norton Utilities Ultimate lets you recover many types of lost files by searching the drive of your choice. It helps you retrieve lost, damaged, or corrupted data from internal and external hard drives.

Important: You can recover deleted files only if they are not overwritten. If a deleted file got updated or replaced by a newer version in the original location, you cannot recover the deleted file. In addition, files deleted using Norton Utilities Ultimate's Data Shredder feature cannot be recovered.

Search and recover files

1. Open Norton Utilities Ultimate.

2. On the main menu, click Manage Data.

3. In the Manage Data window, on the Data Recovery tab, click Scan Now.

4. Use the scan filters to narrow down your scan.

   A generic scan may yield too many search results. Selecting appropriate filters can help you in getting the desired items that you are looking for and also helps reduce the scan time.

5. Click Scan.

   Wait for Norton Utilities Ultimate to complete the scan. You can view the file name, type, size, and original location for each item found.

   You can use the search filters to narrow down the list.

6. Select the files that you want to recover and click Recover.

7. Select a recovery location. Your options are:

   • Select: Select a different location to save the recovered files.

   • Save here anyway: This option saves the recovered files to their original location.

   We recommend choosing a different drive to increase your chances of successful data recovery. Data recovery to the same drive may end in the overwriting of recovered files and lead to the failure of the operation.

8. Wait for Norton Utilities Ultimate to complete the file recovery activity. After the activity completes, click Open recovered to view the recovered items.
