Junk files, including temporary, installation, or residual files, can impact computer performance. File Cleanup removes many types of junk files, and other clutters that can slow down your Mac.
Every time you browse or download files, your computer stores temporary files. Even though you don't need to keep them, they collect over time and can slow you down. The File Cleanup tool removes the clutter to make your computer run faster.
File Cleanup scans and lets you:

Clean the cache for individual apps.

Clean the residual files often left by uninstalled apps to free up disk space.

Analyses and clean the junk-creating behavior of apps installed on your Mac.

Clean the unwanted files in Trash.

Clean log files.
Schedule or customize Norton File Cleanup scan settings on Mac
You can customize the File Cleanup settings to allow your Norton product to notify you if the clutter size exceeds the limit that you specified. You can also schedule a scan, so File Cleanup works in the background without interrupting your work.

Open your Norton device security product.

On the left pane, click Performance.

In the Performance dashboard, in the File Cleanup tile, click Open.

Click the Settings tab. To create a new automatic File Cleanup scan, next to Choose frequency, click Edit Frequency.

In the File Cleanup frequency window, you can customize your preferred options:

Frequency: Run daily, weekly, or monthly.

Click the up or down arrows under “Day of the month” and “Start time” options to change the day and the start time for your custom File Cleanup scan.

Click Save.

Under Scanning categories, enable or disable the slider next to each setting to specify your preferred options. For best results, leave all defaults checked.
