Learn more about Authenticator in Norton Password Manager

The Authenticator feature in the Norton Password Manager mobile app generates a unique 6-digit temporary code every 30 seconds to verify your identity when logging in to specific websites. It prevents unauthorized access even if an attacker has your password and adds an extra layer of security beyond passwords alone.

The Authenticator works with any website that supports two-factor authentication. There is no fixed list of supported websites — if a website offers to set up an authenticator app or enable a 2FA option in its security settings, you can use Norton Password Manager's Authenticator with it.

To set up the Authenticator feature in Norton Password Manager, follow the steps below:

1. Sign in to your account on the website.

2. Navigate to Account Settings, Security Settings, or Privacy & Security.

3. Locate the Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), or Two-Step Verification section.

4. Select Enable or Set Up 2FA.

5. Choose the Authenticator App as the verification method.

6. Now open the Norton Password Manager app on your mobile device and go to the login for which you have enabled 2FA.

7. Tap Authenticator. You can add Authenticator in two methods:

   • Scan the QR code displayed on the website in Step 5

              OR

   • Enter the secret key (you can find the secret key on the website where you have turned on 2FA)

8. Norton Authenticator will generate a 6-digit verification code.

9. Enter the verification code on the website and click Verify or Confirm.

10. Save any backup or recovery codes provided by the website in a secure location.

11. Complete the setup process and ensure 2FA is enabled.

12. Sign out and sign back in to confirm that the website prompts for a code from Norton Authenticator during login.
