Message: "We are sorry. It seems like something went wrong with the installation..." on Mac

This problem can occur if the activation is interrupted during the installation. When you see this error message, in the message window, click Try Again Later. Restart your Mac, then activate your Norton device security app. If the problem persists, uninstall and reinstall your Norton device security app.

STEP 1: Uninstall your Norton device security app

To uninstall your Norton device security app, you must know the Mac Administrator account username and password. This is usually the username and password you use to log in to your Mac.

Before you follow the steps below, ensure that you close your Norton device security app if it is already open.

  1. At the top of your home screen, in the Apple menu bar, click Go > Applications.

  2. Scroll down and double-click Norton Uninstaller.

  3. When the Norton uninstaller window appears, click Continue.

  4. When prompted, type your administrator account password, and then click Install Helper. This is usually the username and password you use to log in to your Mac.

  5. Wait while the uninstaller removes the Norton device security app from your Mac.

  6. When prompted, type your administrator account password, and then click OK.

  7. When the confirmation message appears, click Finish, or optionally click Continue to complete the uninstall survey.

Your Norton device security app is now uninstalled from your Mac.

STEP 2: Download and activate your Norton device security app

  1. Sign in to your account.

  2. Type in your email address and password for Norton, and click Sign In.

  3. In the My Norton portal, click Download.

  4. In the Get Started page, click Agree and Download.

  5. If you see an alert, click Allow.

  6. When the download finishes, double-click the file that you downloaded to launch the Norton installer.

  7. Double-click the Install Norton icon and click Open.

  8. Click Install Norton.

  9. In some cases, the Norton installer provides you with an alert to join the Norton Community Watch that collects information about potential security risks from your computer and sends the information to Norton for analysis. Do any one of the following:

    • Click Join Now to enable the Norton Community Watch on your Norton device security app.

    • Click Maybe Later to join the Norton Community Watch later.

  10. When prompted, type your Mac administrator account password and click Install Helper. This is usually your username and password to log in to your Mac.

  11. When the System Extension Blocked notification appears, click OK.

  12. Click Close.

  13. Click Move to Bin.

Norton device security app is now installed on your Mac. To complete the initial setup, follow the on-screen instructions to allow permissions for your Norton device security app. For detailed instructions, refer to Allow all permissions for your Norton product on macOS.

Activate your Norton device security app

Product activation reduces software piracy and ensures that you use authentic Norton software. You must activate your Norton device security app to use all the Norton features and keep your device protected.

To activate your Norton device security app:

  1. Open your Norton device security app.

  2. On the left pane, at the bottom, click Account.

  3. Click Sign in, enter the credentials for the account that contains your valid Norton device security subscription, and then click Continue.

Norton device security app is now activated on your Mac.
