Internet connectivity problem may occur due to various reasons. It can happen due to a temporary problem from your service provider or a problem in your computer that is caused by the firewall. To fix this problem, we need to identify the exact cause.
If you cannot access a specific website but can access other websites, read Fix problems accessing a specific website.
Before you follow the below instructions, do the following:
If Norton VPN is connected, disconnect and connect again.
If Norton VPN is disconnected, connect and disconnect.
Open your Norton device security product.
On the left pane, click Security.
Navigate to Advanced Security > Network > Smart Firewall.
In the Smart Firewall window, next to Smart Firewall, click the slider to turn it Off.
In the window that appears, click More Options, and then select Until I turn it on again.
In the confirmation window, click Disable.
Check if you can connect to the Internet by accessing www.norton.com.
Repeat steps 1 to 4 and turn on Smart Firewall.
Make sure that you turn on Smart Firewall before you follow the next steps.
Depending on whether you can access the Norton website after you turned off the firewall, select one of the following:
If you can access the Internet after you disable the firewall, then you need to reset the firewall rules. For more information read Fix the connectivity problem if you can connect to the Internet only after disabling the Norton firewall.
If you cannot connect to the Internet even after you disable the firewall, uninstall and reinstall your Norton product. For more information, read Fix the connectivity problem if you cannot connect even after disabling the Norton firewall.
If you can connect to the Internet but your web-enabled application does not connect to the Internet, then you need to modify the firewall program rules. For more information, read Fix problem connecting to the Internet from a web-enabled program.
Exit all open applications.
Restart your Mac.
If the problem persists, follow the steps below to uninstall and reinstall the Norton device security product for Mac.
To uninstall your Norton device security app, you must know the Mac Administrator account username and password. This is usually the username and password you use to log in to your Mac.
Before you follow the steps below, ensure that you close your Norton device security app if it is already open.
At the top of your home screen, in the Apple menu bar, click Go > Applications.
Scroll down and double-click Norton Uninstaller.
When the Norton uninstaller window appears, click Continue.
When prompted, type your administrator account password, and then click Install Helper. This is usually the username and password you use to log in to your Mac.
Wait while the uninstaller removes the Norton device security app from your Mac.
When prompted, type your administrator account password, and then click OK.
When the confirmation message appears, click Finish, or optionally click Continue to complete the uninstall survey.
Your Norton device security app is now uninstalled from your Mac.
Sign in to your account.
Type in your email address and password for Norton, and click Sign In.
In the My Norton portal, click Download.
In the Get Started page, click Agree and Download.
If you see an alert, click Allow.
When the download finishes, double-click the file that you downloaded to launch the Norton installer.
Double-click the Install Norton icon and click Open.
Click Install Norton.
In some cases, the Norton installer provides you with an alert to join the Norton Community Watch that collects information about potential security risks from your computer and sends the information to Norton for analysis. Do any one of the following:
Click Join Now to enable the Norton Community Watch on your Norton device security app.
Click Maybe Later to join the Norton Community Watch later.
When prompted, type your Mac administrator account password and click Install Helper. This is usually your username and password to log in to your Mac.
When the System Extension Blocked notification appears, click OK.
Click Close.
Click Move to Bin.
Norton device security app is now installed on your Mac. To complete the initial setup, follow the on-screen instructions to allow permissions for your Norton device security app. For detailed instructions, refer to Allow all permissions for your Norton product on macOS.
Product activation reduces software piracy and ensures that you use authentic Norton software. You must activate your Norton device security app to use all the Norton features and keep your device protected.
To activate your Norton device security app:
Open your Norton device security app.
On the left pane, at the bottom, click Account.
Click Sign in, enter the credentials for the account that contains your valid Norton device security subscription, and then click Continue.
Norton device security app is now activated on your Mac.
