Get help using your Norton device security product

Your Norton product helps protect your Windows computer with multiple layers of protection against viruses, ransomware, spyware, phishing, trojan horses, and other online threats as you bank, shop, and post online, and your private and financial information when you go online.

When you launch your Norton product, you can access the important features from your dashboard:

Security

Protection against various kinds of viruses and other malware, including network attacks and spam, helping safeguard you against online theft, phishing, and fraudulent websites.

  • Scans

    Check for threats on your PC by running preset scans. You can also create, schedule, and run custom scans. For more information, see Run Norton scans to check for threats on your PC.

  • Cloud Backup

    Cloud Backup stores important files and documents as a preventative measure against data loss due to hard drive failures, stolen devices, and even ransomware. You can restore your valuable information from the backups that your Norton product has made. For more information, see Get Started using Norton Cloud Backup.

  • LiveUpdate

    Check that you have the latest protection from threats as well as feature and performance enhancements. It helps download and install updates to your virus definitions and Norton application. For more information, see Run LiveUpdate.

  • Security History

    Scan results, protection updates, and other Norton tasks are available for you to review in the Security History so that you understand security events that were detected on your PC. For more information, see Review recent security or other events with Security History.

  • Quarantine

    Suspicious or dangerous files your Norton product detects during scans are locked away in Quarantine, where they can’t do any harm. Files in Quarantine cannot be accessed or run by any outside processes, software applications, or viruses. For more information, see Learn more about Quarantine.

  • Browser Extensions

    You can install Norton extensions for your web browsers to protect your browsing. For more information, see Learn more about Norton browser extensions.

  • Password Manager

    Norton Password Manager helps you access, manage, and secure your passwords and personal information that you rely on for your online activities.   • Parental Control

    Provides Real-time Protection against ransomware, viruses, spyware, malware, and other online threats to your Windows computer.

  • Ransomware Protection

  • Sandbox

    The Sandbox feature in your Norton product lets you browse the web or run programs in a completely isolated, safe environment.   • Smart Firewall

    Smart Firewall monitors the network traffic between your PC and the outside world to help protect you from unauthorized communication and intrusions. This feature is designed to require minimal input from you. To ensure you have protection, all you need to do is keep Smart Firewall enabled.   • Intrusion Prevention

    Intrusion Prevention helps protect you from malicious attacks when you are online. It scans all the network traffic that enters and exits your computer and checks for attack signatures that could exploit vulnerabilities in your operating system or a program you use.   • Safe Web

Privacy

Not all features in this section are available in all Norton plans or in all countries.
  • Secure VPN

    Secure VPN feature helps protect your online privacy when information is being sent or received over Wi-Fi, wired, or mobile connections. For more information, see Learn more about Norton Secure VPN.

    Norton Secure VPN is available only in certain countries.
  • SafeCam

    SafeCam prevents applications and malware from accessing your PC's webcam and microphone without your permission. For more information, see Configure access settings for your webcam with SafeCam.

Settings

The Settings window lets you configure the various protection settings available within your Norton product.

The default device security settings provide comprehensive protection for your computer. You do not need to change the settings unless there is a specific need. For more information, see Configure Norton device security settings on Windows.

Keep in mind that the changes that you make apply to all users who use the computer.
