End-of-Support announcement for Norton protection on Windows XP and Windows Vista

Why is Norton protection ending on Windows XP and Vista?

Microsoft had ended support for Windows XP in 2014 and Windows Vista in 2017.

NortonLifeLock products and services have continued to help protect computers using these operating systems well past their end-of-support dates from Microsoft. However, to continue to provide our best security for modern Windows operating systems, these older operating systems will no longer be supported.

How do I find the Windows version on my computer?

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

The About Windows window opens and displays the version of Microsoft Windows, the build info, and service pack information, if any service pack is installed.

When will the Norton protection end?

Norton protection will stop supporting Windows XP and Vista in early 2021. An exact end-of-support date will be communicated soon and your Norton protection will continue to function normally until then. After the end-of-support date, computers running unsupported operating systems will no longer receive product, service and protection updates, and virus definitions.

What should I do if I still use Windows XP or Vista?

For your computer to receive Norton protection after the end-of-support in early 2021, you can update your computer's operating system to Windows 10. While Windows 7 computers are still supported by Norton protection software, we do not recommend upgrading XP or Vista systems to Windows 7 as Microsoft ended Windows 7 support in January of 2020.

Can I transfer my NortonLifeLock subscription after I migrate to a supported version of Windows?

After you migrate to the current version of Windows, you need to reinstall your Norton protection. Go to My Norton to download and reinstall your protection.

If you decide to retire your old computer, you can take Norton protection with you. For more information, read Transfer your Norton protection from one device to another device.

Depending on your subscription, you can also download the Norton protection on your other Mac, Android, or iOS devices.

What if I cannot upgrade to a supported version of Windows?

Your Norton protection will continue to function normally until early 2021. If you cannot upgrade to a supported version of Windows by then, you may continue to use the NortonLifeLock subscription on your other supported devices.

If you are not using the subscription on any of your devices, you can contact Member Services & Support to see if you are eligible for a refund.
