Nothing happens when you try to connect to Norton Secure VPN

Norton Secure VPN/Secure VPN is no longer available for use within India as a result of governmental regulations requiring the logging and saving of user data, but you can still use your product/subscription when traveling outside of India.

Our Customer support would deliver the same message and cannot help/troubleshoot this experience if you reach our support.

This error occurs possibly due to an issue with WMI(Windows Management Instrumentation) service. Resetting the WMI repository would fix the issue.

To verify the WMI issue, Go to Start - Run - type msinfo32 - You may see a message like this, "Can't Collect Information. Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation software. Windows Management files may be moved or missing."

Irrespective of whether the msinfo32 gathered all the system information or if you receive the above message, please try the below workaround:

  • Make sure the Windows updates are up-to-date(Confirm if you got the 21H1 May 2021 Update(Build 19043))

  • Go to Command prompt(elevated mode)

  • Type these commands to reset the WMI repository

    • net stop winmgmt

    • winmgmt /resetrepository

    • net start winmgmt

  • Restart the machine

  • Now, you should be able to turn ON the VPN or select different regions

You may also try a clean uninstall of your Norton product, Reset the WMI repository, Reinstall your Norton product and check if the above workaround is not helping.
