About Security settings

The Security options in Norton Identity Safe let you configure the security level of your Vault. You can also change your Vault password.

Your Vault contains sensitive information that can be misused by identity thieves if not handled properly. The Security options add an extra layer of security for your Vault. You can configure the way you want to access your Vault.

You can use the Security options to do the following:

  • Set Vault access

  • Change your Vault password

To access Security settings on Windows, in the Norton Identity Safe main window, click settings icon that is denoted by a cog wheel, and then click Security tab.

To access Security settings on Mac, on the menu bar, click Norton Identity Safe, click Preferences, and then click Security tab.

Your options are:

Vault Access

You can configure the following security settings to open your Vault. Your options are:

  • Ask for my password at the beginning of each login session: Prompts for your password the first time you access Norton Identity Safe.

    Symantec recommends that you use this option to keep your identity data more secure.

  • Ask for my password before filling a login or form: Prompts for your password before auto-filling a form or login.

  • Close Vault after time minutes of inactivity: Automatically logs you out of Identity Safe when do not use your Identity Safe for a specified time period. You can set the idle timeout period as 15, 30, or 45 minutes.

    This option is useful if you are frequently in an area that is crime bound.

  • Close Vault upon sleep: Automatically logs you out of Identity Safe when your system is in suspended state.

Vault password

You can configure the Vault password. Your option is:

  • Change Vault Password: Lets you change your Identity Safe Vault password and set a new password hint.
