Turn off important protection features

You should turn on the feature to ensure complete protection of your system.

This window appears when you attempt to turn off one of the following features:

  • Auto-Protect

Auto-Protect secures your computer from all types of viruses and unknown threats using the latest virus definitions. We recommend that you keep Auto-Protect turned on at all times to prevent viruses from infecting your computer.

Auto-Protect loads into memory when Windows starts, providing constant protection to your computer. It blocks the programs that are identified as threats even before they can be installed on your computer. We recommend that you keep Auto-Protect turned on at all times to prevent viruses from infecting your computer. Auto-Protect works in the background without interrupting your work.

When you turn off Auto-Protect, Norton automatically turns off Antivirus, Behavioral Protection and Download Intelligence.

  • Email Protection

Email Protection protects you from the threats that are sent or received in email attachments. By scanning incoming email messages, you protect your computer against the viruses that others email to you. By scanning outgoing email messages, you do not inadvertently transmit viruses or worms to others. Norton protects your computer against any threats that you might receive or send in email attachments.

When you turn off Email Protection, Norton automatically turns off Email Antivirus Scan and Norton AntiSpam.

However, you can temporarily turn off this feature and specify the amount of time for which you want it to be turned off. When the time that you specify concludes, the feature automatically restarts. You can override your setting at any time, and turn on the feature in the Settings window.
